Looking for Clarity?

I suspect that a lot of people have opened their minds this past year to the idea of seeking clarity or at least have realized their desire for it. Whether you’ve realized you need more clarity or you’ve gained some clarity this year or neither, I hope you know how important clarity is for your goals, well-being, and relationships.

If you’re not sure how important clarity is, just ask yourself – have I ever felt lost? Directionless? Like I wasn’t sure who I was or what I wanted? Has change ever made me feel uncertain or insecure? If these questions or feelings have come up for you before, like they have for most of us, just know you were seeking clarity.

Here are some exercises and tools to help you develop a practice of seeking clarity. We are continuously changing beings, which means the persistent practice of changing for the better and seeking clarity is needed.

  1. Determine your level of clarity.
    • Figure out where you already are with your clarity. Sometimes our current state of clarity isn’t serving us. Sometimes we are clear on all of the things we are bad at or missing, filling our mind with negativity, self-doubt, and even anxiety. Take a moment to write down everything to believe to be true about yourself and your future. If you are noticing a lot of negativity come up ask yourself, “whose opinion helped shape this idea?” Uncovering the source of these ideas and feelings stem is a fantastic starting point for change.
  2. Utilize modalities to increase your clarity
    • Modality is a therapy term for a tool, any external device, object, or substance that we use to support a habit or facilitate a desired state or goal.
    • Whenever we are working on ourselves it is helpful to create an environment that supports that. This can look like using notebooks and pens that inspire us, listening to music, having access to direct sunlight, and my favorite, diffusing essential oils.
    • Smell has a powerful affect on our mood and our memory. Smelling the same thing when we are doing a specific activity can be really helpful in bringing us to that place, mentally, very quickly. Here is my go to diffuser recipe for clarity – 3 drops lemon, 2 drops basil, 2 drops rosemary, and 2 drops clary sage.
  3. Practice regular self-reflection
    • A practice of self-reflection will serve you well in many areas, but especially clarity in your life. This can be a daily, weekly, etc., but I would advise you to not do it less frequently than monthly. Many people only do this annually, at the new year, but I encourage you to be more intentional with your life than that. Here are a few questions to get you started with this practice:
      • How do I want to show up in my life today/this week/this month?
      • What is one thing I can do to have more clarity?
      • What are my top 3 goals/priorities/intentions right now?
      • What are the current insecurities I am facing?
      • What am I currently proud of myself for?
      • What are my favorite things about myself and my life right now?
      • What needs to change so I can be more of who I want to be in this world?

I hope these ideas serve you well and that you can gain some additional clarity in your life. I’d love for you to share what comes up for you during this practice with a comment down below.

Much love,

Danielle
