Getting help after a break-up

Getting help after a break-up

The struggle of a break-up is real.

A break-up is not easy for anyone, even if it seems that way. It can throw off your self-esteem, confidence, sense of self, and whole world for a period of time. You experience depression and anxiety after a break-up. You feel rejected, second guess decisions, and generally feel lost.

Even after break-ups where I felt a weight lifted off of me, I still was tortured with grief and hardship over the decision. It doesn’t matter if you were the one to initiate the end of the relationship or not, the struggle is real and you don’t have to down play it.

The good news is that you don’t have to deal with this struggle alone.

There is strength in asking for help.

Asking for help can be hard. There is a little bit of pride we all have and have to get over to be able to ask for help when we need it. I am the first to admit that I struggle with this one. I want to believe I do not need help; that I can do it all myself. I know that it can be hard, but there is real strength in asking for help. It is not something you EVER have to feel ashamed of.

When you ask for help it allows you to be your best self. Asking for help is stepping into your strength and realizing that you will be stronger with the support of others. None of us were meant to be alone through life. We all benefit from the help of others.

You are strong enough to ask for help.

Let’s figure out what you need and how to ask for it.

There are many areas where you may need help at any time in life, but especially after a break-up.

Do you need help reducing the overall stress in your life? Then asking for support with housework, errands, taking time off work, etc. may be helpful.

Do you need help not thinking about the other person? Then going on vacation, getting some friends to go out with you, starting a new hobby, etc. may be helpful.

Do you need someone to talk to? Then asking a friend, finding a psychologist, a life coach, etc. may be helpful.

What other areas do you need help in? How can you ask for help?

  1. I love this post! I feel like with women it is more of a struggle because even though the relationship might have been bust – we still horrible for ending it because we don’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings. When I ended my past relationship I had a self esteem issue that I didn’t value myself more…and I did go seek help. Great post Danielle!!
