Practice Confidence
This is part four of the four part series on overcoming feeling like a fraud. If you missed part one check it out HERE , part two HERE, and part three HERE.
We all want confidence, especially as women. However, we’ve been programed to hide, devalue ourselves, and not outshine others. These things create feelings of being a fraud. Don’t worry, together we can overcome these feelings, but it does take work.
So far in this series, you’ve worked on nailing down your feelings and why. You’ve also worked on changing your hormones and focused on knowing yourself on a deeper level. Now, it’s time for the last strategy we will go through together which is PRACTICE.
I’m sure you’ve heard the saying “Practice Makes Perfect.” Well, it’s true. When I’m working with a coaching client, piano student, or a therapy client practice is key.
If you feel like a fraud then PRACTICE is the easiest and hardest strategy to help you overcome those feelings. It is easy because it is straightforward there is no mystery. You just have to put the time in and do it. It is hard because it takes time, work, and commitment. Which are things we as humans often avoid.
Therefore, here are some keys to practice:
- Make it easy:
- Decide how you are going to practice beforehand.
- Plan out tomorrow, today. Don’t waste energy tomorrow. You can do this by laying things out the night before, putting it into your schedule, and figuring out what steps and decisions have to be made.
- Make the decision easy.
- Not only should you plan the night or day before, but actually set things up for yourself prior to being in that situation. Such as, setting out your running shoes the night before, keeping your sketchbook next to your bed, throwing out your junk food, etc.
- Decide how you are going to practice beforehand.
- Get accountability.
- Get a friend who is working on the same thing and hold each other accountable through weekly check-ins.
- Hire a life coach. Their job will be to keep you accountable. Investing in a life coach shows yourself and others that you are really serious about making a change and you will reap the rewards.
- Try a negative consequence. Such as, every time you don’t practice you have to pay money to something you dislike.
Now it’s time to take ACTION:
- Start practicing.
- Keep up with your hormone work and knowing yourself.
- Seek out help when you need it.
